Holy Moley! (DOG EAR)

Holy Moley! (DOG EAR)

Keep in mind that I need to review a book a week. Anything from a short story to a 800 page monster, something’s gotta show up. I’ve been holding this schedule for years.

Anything I read, I review. I have to.

The story then goes to the train club, where I was under our mountain, inside staging (where all the trains are kept lined up and ready for a session), entering boxcar numbers into a database I’m writing to handle car routing. A friend is outside the mountain, and we’re discussing theology and religion through the plaster hillside.

The thing is, I’m an agnostic (and perhaps and atheist when I’m really pissed off). But I’m willing to discuss things. I even did Lent and Shiva Maas last year. And I’ve read the Gita, as well as a book on ID. Still, I’m more of a tourist than a scholar when it comes to religion.

Having mentioned I am usually willing to read any good book someone will suggest, this friend suggested the Bible.

Okay.

But then I told him that I can’t spare time for non-reviewed reading and the rule is, I read it, I review it. That gave him pause.

Look, I’m not going to take it apart based on the stories within or nail it on pacing or anything. In this case, I’d probably review my feelings about reading it and what I might discover. But this has a lot of people peevish. Two ladies I know at work have cornered me and said I shouldn’t. And now one thinks I should sit with her at lunch and read it together.

And while I respect their intentions (as well as being both amused and slighted, all at once), I’m not sure what the deal is. If I read it and don’t get anything out of it, what have you (as the religion of Christianity) lost? One possible convert? One guy? And maybe I’ll write a funny review about it and cheapen the idea of the Bible, just another chip in a immoral world full of sledgehammers.

But maybe I’ll get it.

Maybe I’ll find God.

Who knows?

Stay tuned.
