Losing my Religion (DOG EAR)

Losing my Religion (DOG EAR)

t doesn’t take much of a stretch to imagine that I’m a liberal. Commute by bike. Live on a pretty gay street. Have friends of all nationalities.

There are a couple of business I won’t buy from unless backed into a corner. Exxon, for the Exxon Valdez and their bullshit response. BP, for the same sort of thing in the Gulf. So that’s environmental. You might even say my wife and I have taken it a step further – we own a small (older) Mini Cooper and a newer Prius.

For other concerns, I don’t buy from Chick-fil-a and Hobby Lobby for their gay-bashing. But the other day, I was thinking of what that “step further” might mean. And it comes down to this – they are Christian-backed and are openly weighing in on matters not theirs. They should be focused on selling chicken and stupid craft shit, not telling a person who and how they will love another.

Christian-backed. That hit me. Christians have become insufferable as of late. There were all number of “houses of worship” that were weighing in on politics, supporting 47. They repeated lies, vilified gays and immigrants. They removed women’s reproductive rights. They ban books. They form schools of indoctrination. They think that wealth is “god’s reward”. And they even buy 47’s nationalistic, jingoistic, bullshit bible. How can a true christian think that “god is only on their side”. Probably because, by definition, they are not true christians.

So that’s my big realization here – it’s not these punky-little stores that’s the problem. Christians are the problem. They are hateful and immoral, money-grubbing and rights-stealing. So that’s my boycott for them. I’ll avoid a church like a vampire. If you are getting married, I might not come. If you die, I hope you have a funeral home. Give you the time of day to preach? No. Listen to your “word”? No again. You’ve violated my trust and respect.

Maybe there are good christians out there doing good deeds for the sake of their belief. Yay, you. But to me, it’s a big gold-encrusted, blood-dripping scam. So screw you and your “casual christianity”. It is not any more spiritual than a Sam’s Club membership.
