OpsLog – FEC – 2/27/2016

he Hindus have a little idea, how everyone who dies is resurrected. I can only hope this is true. If it is, in my next life, perhaps I’ll run that Cocoa switcher a little better than I did today.

Just stupid blunders. I needed tanks, gons and a couple of boxcars for a train I was building. Tanks and gons were all scattered in the north yard – had to go cherrypicking. The boxes were in a neat little grouping one track away from where I’d construct the outbound turn. And it seemed like a good idea (at the time) to work it this way. But something nagged me into checking the outbound car paperwork (for cars already loaded, essentially in the do-not-use/touch category). Of course, all the box cars I had my beady eyes on were actually outbound.

Then it hit me – if I’d simply pulled boxes near the tanks and gons, I would have gotten it all (nice and combined) in two quick moves. Rather I decided to shuffle more times than a nervous riverboat gambler, pulling, swapping, sorting. What a bloody waste of time. And to add to it, when I was all done, I left the main turnout open and got dinged a demerit for that! Just not my day.

Still, bumped into Kevin at the session – haven’t seen him in a bit so it was nice to run into him again. And it really was fun (even with my brainless flailing). Well, I guess in my next life I’ll switch this job out better. Unless I come back as a <insert your own punchline here>!

Wouldn’t that be a scream!
