Too damn busy (DOG EAR)

Too damn busy (DOG EAR)

veryone hears those stories of the businessman who retires and is dead in six months. I know an ex-cop who got a blood clot because he sat around all day watching TV.

I don’t have these problems.

It really clogged up last week. I’m a good dispatcher in model railroad ops sessions. I’m actually requested most times. So when two good friends of mine, Tom and John, both had sessions on last week’s Thursday (tied into a train convention) I ended up spending the entire day dispatching two layouts, back to back. It was 12 hours of doing what I love, but that’s a lot of doing.

The next day, I had to meet with my game producer on a project we’re working on. That was an all-day thing over coffee.

And then the weekend, when we had a two day train show to set up our display layout. For most of the time, I was pretty much the go-to show boss, handling issues, talking with prospective members and helping some guys correctly run a switching puzzle we had set up. This was all day, an hour away from the house. So after all these train events, I was pretty tired.

But wait – there’s more. I’m the secretary for the club (for no other reason than (a) I can write and (b) nobody else wants the job). Since the year had rolled over, I had an annual report to distribute and two sets of business meetings to write up (the board meeting and the general meeting). So I’m looking at, what, three things to write on Monday? No, six. This is because I always blog operating sessions and shows, so I needed those done.

And so that’s why I was sitting there all day Monday, dragging from all I’d had to do, working my way through the pile of obligations. So no, I don’t really miss work, but it was actually a little calmer most days (and there was coffee!). Today I’m dealing with getting my watch repaired and engraving a club plaque. Tonight is a club night – we’ll be cleaning rails and getting ready for next week’s ops.

Walked through the garage the other day and saw my bicycle glaring at me. Yes, boy, we’ll ride. Maybe tomorrow.

Yes, so nothing to do, right?

And if you want to see some of my reporting blogs, here they are.
