Destroyermen 3: Maelstrom (Review)

Destroyermen 3: Maelstrom (Review)

he third book in The Destroyermen series did not disappoint. Whereas the first two books of the string only had the Americans (and one Japanese guy) in USS Walker, the Mahan, the Amagi (with the rest of the Japanese guys), the Lemurs and the nasty, toothy Grik, now we’ve added a couple of more power factions to this world.

Since the Great Swarm didn’t work out so well for the Grik last book, they might as well try it again, this time fully backed by the big old Amagi, helmed by its frothing Japanese captain (who was perfectly fine with feeding a portion of his original crew to his overlords last time he screwed up). But there are greater hints (and actual answers) what happened to the Indiamen who sailed east back in the 1700’s and were presumed lost. And possibly even a through-the-storm submarine (whose, ours or the Japanese, remains to be seen). So there is lots going on, characters dying, new characters coming on board, and a final kick-ass battle for Ballkpan (where Walker and Amagi face off for the final time). So its fun alternate-history steampunky crazyworld shit, the stuff that Destroyermen is so good at.

Worth a peek, at any rate. But start your journey into this world with Into the Storm, the first of the set. You won’t be disappointed.

And I still wish – goddammit – that author Taylor Anderson would number his damn books!
