very now and then while scrolling FaceBook, I’ll find an old Calvin and Hobbs strip. I’ll generally pause and enjoy it (which is probably why the FaceBook AI bots send me more of them (creepy)). I like the fresh art and the humor of a child who, like Dennis the Menace, is out of control. It ended after ten years when creator Bill Watterson decided he’d said all he could and couldn’t work with the compression of comics in dying newspapers. I can respect him for this.
Recently a Dilbert group showed up, complete with a weird cartoon that didn’t make sense. Now, you’ll remember that Scott Adams got himself de-published after a racist rant on his podcast. Virtually every newspaper he was in dropped him. And since he injects his conservative shit into everything he does these days, I’m more than happy to see him go. I liked him when he made jokes about office culture, but that doesn’t mean I want to support his crap. Goodbye, Dilbert.
I did look through some of the comments on this mystery strip (I can’t tell if it was authored by him or one of his fans). The comments were along the typical lines of conservative talking points, that his removal was woke, or silencing, or a left-wing conspiracy. No, he just made his name and character radioactive – he picked his hill and died on it.
All I can say is that I’ll keep glancing at the Calvin strips. And if I see any more from the Dilbert kool-aid club, I’ll mark it as hate speech and get it removed from my feed.
After thirty-plus years in offices, I enjoyed Dilbert. But after thirty-plus years of hateful conservatism, I choose to boycott Adams. His actions. My response.
>>>MY BOOKS. BOYCOTT THEM IF YOU WISH. JUST MAKE SURE TO MAKE A CONTROVERSY WHEN YOU DO<<<
